ADHESIVES............are
remarkably diverse, covering several dozen major categories
of materials
that accomplish fastening and laminating tasks in over 20 industries.
Those adhesives that improve the performance to cost ratio grow most
rapidly. Since adhesives may account for only a fraction of the total
weight, a higher cost per pound can be tolerated
if the resulting product is
significantly upgraded. High performance structural adhesives, pressure-sensitives and hot melts enjoy the best growth.
Engineering/structural (E/S) adhesives are called upon to
bond "difficult nonporous
substrates such as metal, glass, plastics and
rubber, yielding assemblies with high performance characteristics --
structural strength, resistance to heat and solvents, etc. Leaders
among these adhesives are epoxy resins, polyvinyl butyral, polyurethanes,
cyanoacrylates, anaerobics, polyamides, polyester and acrylics. They
are high in value, averaging ten times the overall average price. More
than other adhesives, they tend to
be 100%solids, applied as hot melts or as
curable liquids. These "high tech" adhesives
are thoroughly covered.
Skeist Incorporated's involvement with adhesives dates
back to its beginnings when Dr. Irving Skeist, the firm's founder, published
the HANDBOOK OF ADHESIVES, over
four decades ago.
"ADHESIVES" is a thorough technical, economic, and
marketing analysis of the latest developments in this complex industry.
